From Herb, WB1DSW:
I really did it tonight. Meant to type LF (I was checking a forwarded
message for someone) and I typed KF. You know what that does? There
goes all your bulletins - at least the ones that have been forwarded.
What to do. Learn a DV macro. Many steps involved but once recorded
the recovery process is simple and much easier than typing the E command
a thousand times....
Put your ASCII file editor up in a window and get it into "insert" mode.
Swtich to SYSOP. Now, type LK USBBS which puts out msg nos for USBBS
in a nice fat column. Then get into Mark and mark the left column, the
one containing msg nos. Swtich to editor and Transfer the column to
the edit. Repeat this back and forth until you have the entire batch of
killed msg no lined up left justified. Time to learn the DV macro.
Swtich back to sysop. Get into Learn - select an F-key (I used F9). The
idea is to record the keystrokes used to edit the message nos but suck
in the actual nos from the editor. So you learn: E <switch to editor>
<Mark> <Begin> <Right 5 times> <End> <BackSpace 5 times> <Swtich to sysop>
<Transfer> <Enter - to spit out 5 digits> <Enter> S K <Enter 2 times>
<Un-Learn>. If all that seems rather tedious it is except when applied
to the sysop window you just type F9 a bunch of times. You could read
a book or watch TV while doing this saving tens of hours and wrist tendons
to boot. I don't believe DV will allow sophiticated recursing in it's
macro language. However this does show the brilliance of having all
DV aware software or at least programs that are appropriate for DV to handle.
